Modal Kombat: Controlling Video Games With Real Guitars
Performance Art • 2006-2018

I was founding member and performer in the guitar duo Modal Kombat, an act in which musical information from guitars such as pitch, pitch sequences, and volume serve to move video game avatars in what ultimately manifests itself as a public, guitar-controlled video game competition. The mechanism by which this system works is one I developed while at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program. The system is comprised of custom MIDI guitars, custom hardware and circuitry (the guitar/video game interface), and original software for audio/visual processing written using Max/MSP/Jitter.

SONIC BODY PONG
Interactive Installation • 2008-2014

SONIC BODY PONG is based on Atari's classic video game, Pong. It takes place in physical space with the players using their bodies as paddles. The ball is experienced by the players purely through sound. I programmed the Pong engine that drove the gameplay aspect of the experience. Along with my small team from NYU, we have showcased at EYEBEAM in New York, the HaPzura Festival in Israel, and the Monitor Digital "MOD" Festival in Guadalajara, Mexico.

About Me

I'm a product and service design leader who has been lucky to have worked on a variety of projects with a range of well-known companies. Constantly curious, I am currently creating concepts using rapid AI prototyping tools. I'm also an interactive artist who continually experiments with new concepts and alternative video game interfaces. Hopefully this site helps you understand my capabilities and how I think and create. Please get in touch if you'd like to know more.
